WOTNW, What's on the Needle Wednesday

WOTNW – 2016-1

So it is a new year and this is the first What is on the Needle Wednesday of 2016 … so what is my main project … a vest for my Dad’s Birthday, which is this weekend.

I designed a cable vest pattern that has three cable patterns … one very simple cable, only 4 stitches that frames the focus design and the secondary design. The secondary design has a few movements and is 12 stitches wide. The focus pattern is 34 stitches wide. The focus pattern has a definitive left and right side, with a 2 stitch middle. This middle will be become the split point for the front V. All patterns are multiples of 20 rows.

The sweater has been knit in the round up to the base of the armhole, then the front and back are knit separately. I have completed half the back split, so much to go before it is done, don’t think I will make it. But I am pretty sure I can finish by the end of the month.

As for the yarn I am using …¬†madelinetosh tosh dk. I started the design in Chicory Rain, which I bought 3 skeins thinking I was going to knit a scarf. When I switched to a vest I determined I didn’t have enough, and you guessed it the LYS had no more. Time for decisions, scrap the vest, change the yarn or get creative. Decided to get creative … I found another colorway that merged well with Chicory, called Rain Water. So now I am switching colors every two rows, the two colors seem to be playing well together.
